Try This Church Photo Trend ASAP

This kind of photography is seeing a massive resurgence...

Hey, it’s Brady,

There’s an old style of photography seeing a massive resurgence right now.

And I think it’s the perfect fit for churches…

It’s disposable cameras!

You can get a pair of these for ~$25 on Amazon. Specifically, I’ve been shooting with the Fujifilm QuickSnap Flash 400.

Each camera has 27 exposures on it. Meaning, you can take 27 photos on its wide-angle lens. The film inside is Fujifilm's Superia X-TRA 400. It's got that typical FujiFilm look – cool magenta and greenish tones.

The 400 in the name refers to the film's 400 ISO making it suitable for both daylight and lowlight. It's got a fine grain with medium contrast and saturation.

So what's the right application for this at church? Well, these are not going to be your main cameras for capturing Sunday morning. These have a few specific applications where they really shine.

First, these are going to be great for events. Below you’re seeing a few shots from our church’s Trunk or Treat this year.

For youth ministry specifically, these will also be a great option. Get five of 'em, hand them out to a few students at your next youth event, let them take photos of their POV of the event.

These photos may lack the tack sharpness of digital or the convenience of a phone, but they’re rich in emotion.

Perhaps more importantly, people tend to be less camera shy around disposable cameras making for warmer and friendlier shots.

For developing these cameras, I simply go to the post office and mail them off to a company that will develop them and send me digital scans.

From there, we use those digital scans to create videos and social media posts.

Below you’ll find a full tutorial on how we do this, tips for using these cameras and the common mistakes to avoid in church.

Thanks as always for your time, attention, and trust. - Brady Shearer
