Hey, it’s Brady,
There are 6 church social media trends your church needs to avoid:
#1. The Bandwidth Bottleneck
The person running your church's social media also does the bulletin. The newsletter. The website. The graphics. And helps with kids' check-in on Sundays.
Social gets whatever time is left. Which means it's the first thing cut when the week gets busy.
#2. The ‘One-and-Done’
Your pastor spends 15-20 hours preparing a sermon. It gets preached on Sunday.
Then what? One post. Maybe two. That's it. On to next week.
Meanwhile, that sermon had enough material for 8-10 pieces of content. Moments where Scripture met real life in a way that would stop a stranger mid-scroll.
Those moments existed. They just never got posted.
#3. The Insider Curse
When you work at a church, you lose the ability to see it like an outsider.
The sermon moment that felt powerful in the room doesn't always translate to social. The series theme that matters internally means nothing to someone who's never been to your church.
The result? Content that resonates with your congregation but never reaches beyond them. Deep but not wide. An echo chamber.
#4. The AI Trap
We're increasingly using AI in our creative workflows.
But ultimately, it's a human’s job to make the final call on what gets posted, how it's worded, and what gets repurposed from a sermon.
It requires taste, empathy, and judgment (dare I say, the Holy Spirit) that no tool can replicate.
#5. The Consistency Cliff
All-in for three weeks. Silence for a month. A few throwaway posts. Then another burst. Then another drop.
The head of Instagram said it plainly: "If you don't post for a month or two, coming back in can be rough."
Why? The algorithm needs data to know who to show your content to. Every time you disappear, you're starting from scratch.
It's not about going viral. It's about never going dark. No Weeks Off.
