Sermon Reels Are Finally Dead...

Let’s look at the data.

Hey, it’s Brady,

Sermon reels are finally dead.

…at least that’s how it seems, right?

My entire Instagram feed is just creative church skits these days. 😆

By that I mean posts like this and this and this.

And it’s inarguable. These types of posts do HUGE numbers. And many of them are genuinely hilarious.

Here’s the thing…

These posts are being circulated (almost exclusively) in the church/Christian subculture.

Meaning, they will not introduce your church to new people in your area.

That doesn’t mean they’re without value!

But they shouldn’t be the primary focus of your church’s social strategy either.

Let’s look at some data…

Below you’ll see a church’s top 10 performing social posts over a 120 day range.

Three of their top performing posts are creative reels. The other seven are sermon reels.

This is a great balance.

There’s more though…

The top two performing posts were sermon reels that collected a combined 3,000 shares.

Shares are the most important metric on social (according to the head of Instagram).

They’re also the digital version of sharing the Gospel.

The wisdom of Scripture is for all people. For all time. Irrespective of faith background.

Meaning, a sermon reel is relevant to your church, the broader Christian subculture, and every person in your church’s neighborhood that doesn’t know Jesus.

The creative process for sermon reels is monotonous. And repetitive.

Despite that, sermons reels remain the bedrock of every great social media strategy.

As for creative reels? They’re the perfect supplement.
