Hey, it’s Brady,
Here are 7 ideas to make your next baptism Sunday not just unforgettable for the people getting baptized, but also for the entire church.
#1. The One-Question Testimony
Ask the person being baptized one question before they go under:
"What's the moment everything changed for you?"
It's specific enough to get a real answer. Emotional enough to move a room. And short enough to keep the energy high.
You could also pre-record their response. Play it before they're baptized. Then repurpose it for social.
#2. Family Participation Moment
Have each baptism candidate choose one person to join them at the water.
The pastor initiates the baptism. Their person hands them the towel when they come up.
Most people come to faith through a relationship. This honors that. And the pastor only needs one line to tell the whole story: "This is Trish. She's joined today by her mom, Hannah."
That single sentence is the testimony.
#3. The Live Photo Moment
Capture the moment - obviously. But have the photos printed or digitally delivered before the person who got baptized leaves the building.
(Shooting tip: fast shutter speed, burst mode. There's a lot of movement in that water.)
#4. The Off-Site Baptism
Lake. River. Beach. Backyard pool.
Jesus was baptized in a river. There's something about being outdoors that makes it feel less like a church service and more like an event.
It breaks the pattern. It turns a Sunday into a memory. And it can become a yearly tradition.
#5. Spontaneous Baptism
If your church always does scheduled baptisms, consider mixing it up. Even just once.
The pastor meets with them briefly. A heart check, not a lengthy class. "Tell me about your decision. Why today?"
#6. The Anniversary Recognition
Track the date of every baptism.
One year later, send them a message: "One year ago today, you declared your faith through baptism."
If you recorded their testimony video - include it. A personal note from the pastor. A reminder of the day everything changed.
#7. The Celebration Lunch
After I was baptized, my family went to The Whistle Stop in Beeton, Ontario. My grandparents were there. We never went out to eat, so this was special. I still remember it.
That's what celebration does. It extends the moment beyond the water.
After baptism Sunday, host a meal. Because baptism doesn’t need to end when the service does. The best day of someone's faith journey deserves more than a handshake in the lobby.
