Social Media Metrics Your Church Should *Actually* Care About

It's not 'Likes' or 'Followers'.

Hey, it’s Brady,

I’ve always tracked my social media efforts in two ways:

  1. Follower growth

  2. Individual post metrics (likes, saves, shares, etc.)

Here’s why I’ve abandoned these numbers…

#1. Followers Don’t Matter: You and I are no longer entitled to the real estate on our follower’s feeds. In fact, most of our followers won’t see most of what we post.

#2. Supply vs. Demand: The supply on social media outpaces demand right now. Meaning, some of your posts will flop! And a post that performed well last year, might not today.

So what am I tracking instead?

The new metric I care about most is:

Views Per Day.

Let me show you a few examples…

Here are some important numbers from my two YouTube channels over the past 90 days.

The first channel has ~10,000 subscribers and has received 1,062 views per day.

The second channel has ~160,000 subscribers and has received 2,104 views per day.

The channel with 16X more subscribers has just 2X more daily views!

What about Instagram? In the past 30 days, my profile has published two of my worst performing posts ever.

But in that same time period, I’ve received 77,966 views per day. Which is actually 35% more than the previous 30 days!

What’s the point of all this?

For me, I tend to obsess over the performance of each individual post.

But in this era, I need to accept that some posts just won’t perform well.

By focusing on Views Per Day, I can fix my attention on a metric that reflects my combined efforts - and isn’t prone to the ups and downs of each individual post.

This will give me a more accurate picture into the health of my social accounts and give me the freedom to not obsess over each individual post.😅

How Even The Smallest Churches Can Win On Social Media

Small churches actually have a big advantage on social media.

As long as they’re not trying to copy bigger ones.
