Christianity's Decline Over At Last? Here's Proof

Not just in America - but across the West.

Hey, it’s Brady,

For the past 15 years, we’ve heard it said countless times:

“People are leaving Christianity.”

However, encouraging new data suggests this is changing.

And not just in the USA.

From 2008 to 2020, the percentage of American adults that identified as atheist, agnostic, or claimed no religion in particular (AKA ‘The Nones’) increased from 21% to 34%. [Source]

To quote Ryan Burge, "The non-religious share of the population was growing about as fast as anything in the world of demography.”

However, ‘The Nones’ have plateaued in the last five years. In fact, there’s even a hint that things are moving very slowly in the other direction.

And not just in America…

According to Nielsen BookScan data, UK Bible sales nearly doubled from 2019 to 2024. [Source]

That’s 25X more growth in five years than in the previous eleven years combined.

US Bible sales have seen a 22% uplift in the past year as well - with publishers reporting more first-time buyers than ever. [Source]

Church attendance in the UK is seeing a resurgence as well.

The Quiet Revival Report noted the number of people reporting monthly attendance has risen from 8% in 2018 to 12% in 2024 (50% more!). [Source]

But the most remarkable jump? Gen Z church attendance quadrupled from 4% to 16% in that same time period.

Here’s my takeaway from all of this:

Roughly 70% of my subscribers are in the 25-44 age bracket. Meaning, for most of us serving in church, the only landscape we’ve known in our adult years is one where Christianity is in decline.

We expect people to be hostile to faith. We often tailor our programming and language to this perspective - understandably so.

This posture may need adjusting though if these trends continue.

If the starting point for people in your community is hunger instead of hostility to ideas of faith, what changes would you make?

The 2025 Church Social Media Calendar

If you put me in charge of your church's social media calendar, *this* is exactly what I'd do.

My calendar covers every major social platform.

Plus, a few of the not-so-major platforms (just in case).

Importantly, this calendar can be tailored to you depending on how much time and effort you have to dedicate to social.

Thanks as always for your time, attention, and trust. - Brady Shearer
