Branding Cheat Sheet For Churches

Here's a template you can work from...

Hey, it’s Brady,

Before your logo.
Before your colors.
Before your fonts.

First…

…there’s Brand Strategy.

But what is that?

Simply put, it’s four items:

  1. Purpose

  2. Mission

  3. Vision

  4. Values

Here’s what each actually means…

  • Purpose = Why We Exist

  • Mission = What We Do

  • Vision = Where We’re Going

  • Values = How We Behave

Not sure how your church would fill these in?

Here’s a template you can work from…

Purpose (Why We Exist): [CHURCH NAME] exists to glorify God by connecting people to Jesus Christ, fostering spiritual growth, and serving our community with love and compassion.

Mission (What We Do): Our mission is to create a welcoming environment where individuals can encounter God, grow in their faith, and engage in meaningful relationships. Through worship, discipleship, outreach, and service, we strive to reflect Christ's love to [CITY NAME] and beyond.

Vision (Where We’re Going): We envision our church as a vibrant, Christ-centered community where people from all ages and walks of life find hope, belonging, and purpose. Our goal is to be a hub of spiritual renewal, community transformation, and global impact through the power of the Gospel.

Can I be honest?

Your church’s purpose, mission, and vision will likely be very similar to mine. And to most. Because the Biblical mandate for The Church is the same.

The values however?

That’s where your church’s unique DNA and personality come to life.

For example…

I recommend your church have three values. Make them short and memorable. Each should start with a verb.

Mine would be:

  1. Believe Big

  2. Stick Around

  3. Make Moments

Realistically, it’s the senior leadership that has your church’s purpose, mission, and vision committed to memory.

But your values?

Every volunteer should know them. The congregation should hear them from the stage repeatedly.

The language you use becomes the culture you build.

And your values are the most important building blocks.
