Bottom line:

This is my favourite camera right now - the Sony A7C II.

So much so, that I bought another one just last week.

Four years ago, I published a YouTube video called The Best Church Video Camera Ever and it was all about the Sony A7S III.

Well, this camera is basically that, but $1,000 cheaper.

It’s also more compact. And actually usable for photography. Because it's got a 33 megapixel sensor.

Superb dynamic range and image quality for video. It's got 7 stops of image stabilization. Which is crucial because it means I can trust this camera to shoot handheld video.

The autofocus never misses. I've been shooting with it for a year and haven’t encountered any overheating issues. It even comes in a stunning silver color.

Plus, it's just about $2,000 - so it's in the affordability range for a ton of churches.

Rarely will a PTZ camera receive any praise from me.

They’re expensive. And the image quality they produce has historically been awful.

Churches are usually drawn to them because they can be controlled remotely.

The Sony FR7 represents a new type of PTZ camera. Because Sony has essentially taken the FX6 sensor (one of their top of the line full-frame cinema cameras) and put that inside a PTZ body.

Simply put, this is the highest-quality cinematic image ever offered in a PTZ system.

Now, is this price tag affordable? No.

But what have we seen in the last ten years of camera manufacturing?

More features for less cost.

The reason I’m highlighting this specific camera is that it may represent the future of church live production.

A $10K price tag is a bit steep right now. But in 5 years? Perhaps we see a model like this for $3,995. That would dramatically alter what’s possible for church live streaming.
