Hey, it’s Brady,
I want to show you a masterclass in church announcements.
This transcript is from Kaylee Whitworth, a youth leader at Kings Circle Church in Oregon. You can also watch it here.
“I don't know about you, but I am so thankful for our church family. It really is a family.
I like to think of myself as like a strong, independent person. And you might think like, yeah, Kaylee's independent. She can do it all.
Well, I had a baby about four months ago. Hand me a newborn and no sleep and I'm not independent anymore. I'm a disaster.
And I just want to say, my family stepped up for me and brought me meals when the meals ran out, dropped Costco food on my doorstep so I had groceries, and offered to watch Kate so I could take a nap.
I'm so thankful that that is the church that I'm a part of, and to be surrounded by community where we're doing life together. Because we all have times where like, we can't do it on our own, right?”
Kaylee kicks off the announcement with a story. National Library of Medicine reports that story is the type of communication that has the ability to change our attitudes, behaviors, and beliefs. Jesus taught using story more than a third of the time.
“If you are newer here, we want to say a special hello and welcome to you.
And if you want to get plugged in to our awesome church family and be a part of that community, we have a super easy way for you to do that.”
She's using her story on community as the springboard into a new visitor getting plugged in to community. But there's more...
“There’s all sorts of good community things happening.
We have community groups on Wednesday nights. Our spring term kicked off a couple weeks ago. That has been awesome. I think yesterday our young adults went out on a hike and then hung out like the rest of the day together. The men had a gathering over Elliott Circle yesterday.
So we got lots of things happening, lots of opportunities to get plugged in and be a part of a great church family."
Do you see what she did? One story to grab your attention about community. And then four different ministries where you can find that depending on who you are. You might be new, or maybe you're a young adult, maybe you're a man, maybe you're not in a small group yet.
She could have just given us an info dump on all four of those ministries, and virtually no one would have remembered what she said.
Instead, she starts with inspiration, spends most of her time there and then hits on four different ministries all linked to the same church value and invitation. Amazing work!
The Church Event Promotions Playbook [Building Block #4]
Your biggest event gets under-promoted. A tiny ministry floods the feed because one passionate leader pushed hard.
Today, we'll unpack the playbooks that answer "how will my event get promoted?" before anyone asks - what channels, what timing, what assets.
See the playbook here.
Thanks as always for your time, attention, and trust. Talk to you next Thursday. - Brady Shearer
